Do you sometimes feel if you could just quit doing the same thing day in and day out, you'd feel better? Studies have shown you're absolutely right!
Getting out of our comfort zone opens our minds to new experiences and can spark more creativity in the future. The new experience will be fresh in your mind, like a happy memory encouraging you to keep trying. Having new experiences is like growing a garden of nutritious food for thought to encourage better health every day and live life more fully.
Face Your Fears
The battle always begins in the mind, doesn't it? It is a challenge to move past physical and mental pain if you are suffering from a setback in life. I am on this road right along with you. Change often requires facing our fears. That is no easy task. Start small and you will find it gets easier.
When I was a kid I used to be terrified of grasshoppers. I had gotten one in my shirt while I was driving a go-cart, and it made me freak out and wreck. After that I was terrified of grasshoppers so I avoided them with a vengeance. I eventually just went up to a grasshopper and touched it. That small act changed my life. I'm no longer scared of grasshoppers. I know we all have experiences like that, when we know our fears aren't reasonable, but we still let the fear control us. We just keep allowing it to happen day in and day out by not actively changing the routine. Wanting to change and taking action is all it takes to move forward and have a life that you can look forward to. Those fears you have faced in the past are now like grasshoppers!
1 Sam 30:6 "And David was greatly distressed... (he) encouraged himself in the Lord his God."
1. Try laughing yoga.
2. Learn about wild edibles and find something in your yard you can eat.
3. Turn on some jazz and dance, walk or take a bath.
4. Read a book while taking a bubble bath.
5. Walk barefoot in the grass.
6. Give to little free libraries.
7. Lay down on a blanket or lawn chair and look at the stars.
8. Make a light box collage from things you love.
9. Drive down a country road, find a place to stop - get out, look around and listen, and then give a prayer of thanks.
10. Find something that has been laying around collecting dust and use it or give it to someone.
Life is full of surprises, so encourage yourself with that gentle reminder every day. Go out into nature and brew a cup of tea on a fire you built. Anything that can bring a smile to your face will lighten the load and create positive chemical changes in your body. So while I'm sipping pine needle tea for the first time (tasty, but needs something), reading 50 Facts So Strange You Won't Believe They're True by BestLife, I read: "A meteor exploded over Earth with the force of 10 atomic bombs and everyone missed it."
It occurs to me - this miracle of life is exploding all around us every day and sometimes we don't even notice it. Encouraging ourselves in that miracle will do wonders. Find new experiences, learn something new and find something to love about yourself to keep moving forward little by little. One day you'll see a healthy mind garden produce some fruit you can share with others.
