"Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will." Mahatma Gandhi

How many times do we skip the walk because we don't feel like it? When in reality taking that walk would make us feel better. Suffering is nothing to take lightly. It can be difficult to get past our feelings and over to the other side where we know we will feel better if we just exercise. We have to develop a will that is determined and refuses to be overcome.

Benefits of Walking

Walking is "the closest thing we have to a wonder drug".

A study published by Harvard Health Publishing, 5 surprising benefits of walking,

found walking eases joint pain and helps boost the immune function. According to the words of Dr. Thomas Frieden, former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, walking is "the closest thing we have to a wonder drug".

A Natural Solution

Overcoming anxiety and depression is a daily fight for me and the side effect of taking prescription drugs has mostly not been favorable. It is encouraging to hear how a simple walk can help me bypass drugs for a more natural solution. I have had to work on becoming my own best friend instead of my worst enemy in order to overcome these issues. I now remind myself to take a short walk every day, knowing it increase the feel-good endorphins in my brain that can enhance an overall healthy lifestyle.

Walk For Adventure

"The Lord stood with me and gave me strength." 2 Timothy 4:17.

Having an active lifestyle will help improve the quality of our lives and help us live longer. Having a walking adventure will make life full and rich, and it costs nothing. After building up strength and stamina, a short daily walk can turn into a hike through nature to beautiful sites that will not only rejuvenate physically, but spiritually as well. 100 Hikes of a Lifetime, by Kate Siber, is an excellent resource for finding that perfect hike that meets your abilities and interests.

Walking can become a well-rounded adventure that rejuvenates the mind, body and soul. You never know what you will see out there - baby raccoons, glowing bugs, deer or maybe just a friendly stranger who says just what you needed to hear. Being in the right place at the right time and having a life-changing experience sometimes just requires getting up and taking a walk.
