JOY IN WATER

Updated: Jan 30

"The ocean stirs the heart, inspires the imagination and brings eternal joy to the soul." - Robert Wyland

The first time I fully realized the healing properties of water was while living near the ocean a few years ago. Not only did I feel an overwhelming sense of love and peace like never before, but I also began to feel much less depressed. Kayaking and swimming made me happy. Seeing the dolphins, sting rays, birds and crabs made me smile.

Water is alive, and it is life.

"To have faith is to trust yourself to the water. When you swim you don't grab hold of the water, because if you do you will sink and drown. Instead you relax, and float." Alan Watts

Without water we can't live, so it makes perfect sense that water holds the key to healing and joy. In his article, Neck Pain, Submerged! The story of my curious experiment with dunking severe chronic neck pain, Paul Ingraham tells the story of how his chronic neck pain disappeared every time he was submerged in water.

Even though it was temporary, it is still comforting to know water is effective pain relief. Exercising in water is safer, putting less stress on the joints. My friend has a partially amputated foot and is only able to have a completely pain-free experience while swimming.

People suffering from chronic pain may find it too painful to exercise, so swimming offers an option for people who are determined to exercise who otherwise couldn't.

To be rejuvenated is to be healed

John 7:38 Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, 'Rivers of living water will flow from his heart'

If we are going to be healthy and have joy in life we need to be rejuvenated. We can be rejuvenated by connecting with nature through water. We can connect with God in our spirits through the living water. Communicating with God by exercising gratitude on a regular basis stirs those living waters in the heart, and there is no doubt the living water communicates with the physical water. It cleanses the mind, body and soul.

Protect Water

There is an eternal connection between water, spirit and physical life. The mysteries of life are alive in water. It speaks those mysteries through this experience we call life. Cherish and protect water. Be surrounded by water and reap the benefits of it's healing properties, because we all are really walking, talking beings of water speaking words of life.
